Description

The main feature of this concrete structure is the main stand which perfectly incorporates structural aspects within the architectural image of the stand. This section of the stadium is noted for the large rear cantilevers, the huge curved beam at the top of the stand which distributes and unifies the deflection and stresses from the cantilever systems, and the large open spaces of the VIP and press boxes. The external architecttural appearance is reinforced and intensified wit the semi-structural enclosure walls formed in perforated concrete.

The stadium enlargement project began at the start of 2004 as part of Madrid’s bid for the 2012 Olympics. The extension work includes new stands, additional areas and a large fabric roof covering.
