Description

This famous and pioneering bridge, designed by Eduardo Torroja and built in 1939, was the first to employ a composite bridge deck as a structural solution.

The rehabilitation work consisted in widening the roadway from its original width of 8.50 m up to 11.50 m in order to meet present  traffic demands, reinforcing according to the new requirements, the lower truss sections.

In addition to widening the deck, the rehabilitation work also included the removal the bridge expansion joints.
