WIDENING OF THE CABLE STAYED BRIDGE OF RANDE STRAIT

Project details

Technical Data

  • Total length:706 m
  • Main span:400 m
  • Width of new decks:2 x 7.32 m

Description

In order to enable an increment of the traffic capacity that circulates through the Rande bridge, a widening solution has been designed that allows the addition of two additional lanes, one for each direction, and whose construction can be built without affecting the traffic of the existing bridge. This extension has been achieved by attaching, to each of the outer sides of the main piles, a new composite deck that is supported on the existing one by triangular trusses. The new deck is supported by a cable stayed system analogous to the existing one, anchored in the top of the main piles through a steel box.

In addition to the expansion project, the viability of the current bridge structure has been also analysed and its adaptation to the current regulations.
