Description

The “Unique Communications Tower” in Buenos Aires, which when its construction finishes on 2015 will be the tallest construction in South Americaue, holds telecommunication dishes at the uppermost third of the building and its 100m tall antenna, together with commercial offices, a museum and auditorium at its two bottom thirds.

The main structure consists of 4 trapezoidal cores and 24 perimetral columns, which support the circular floors of 47 m in diameter: composite slabs consisting of steel beams connected to a concrete slab on steel decks.

At 3 different levels there exist a series of mega-trusses which connect together the four considerably separated cores, and increase the overall efficiency against horizontal loads. Other special items are the inclination of the columns the bottom floors, the elimination of every other column at this level and the setting back of the circular alignment of columns at the top third of the building, which induces important deviation forces.
